The unique growing conditions of Lake County provide a few places to grow Pinot Noir. We have selected a Pinot Noir clone (Clone 32) that is the latest ripening clone in every California Pinot Noir clonal trial. The late ripening nature of clone 32 allows the fruit to ripen in the later (October), and cooler part of the season, keeping on par with the early ripening Dijon clones of Carneros. The Lyon vineyard is the first of the two to come into the winery just about 10 days prior to the Dorn vineyard Pinot Noir. The Lyon and Dorn Vineyard lots are brought in separately and are fermented in stainless tanks and barrel aged in French and Hungarian barrels, of which 20% are new, for roughly 9 months. The final blend consists of equal portions of the two. |
